This was a hard list to compile, as we’ve seen many different places that would qualify. In the end we agree on the following three.
#1 Kolmanskop, Namibia
This is truly a photographers paradise in a completely unique environment. Formally a diamond mining town in southern Namibia, it is now a ghost town where the buildings are slowly being swallowed by sand.
#2 Deadvlei, Namibia
This place definitely qualifies as surreal. Giant dunes all around, surrounding the Deadvlei pan, a unique place like no other in the world where Acacia trees that died over 600 years ago are preserved by the lack of humidity and insects.
#3 “Martian” or moon-like landscapes, all over Iceland
If you’ve ever longed to walk on the barren red terrain of Mars, several areas of Iceland will get you close.
